Gawd Stygian area is the hardest and at the same time easiest, the first group of FoW mobs are fairly easy to handle, they just have some strong survivability, but 500 touchers coming at you with spike touches, Good Mutha F***** Game, man I love this area, for once my dervish actually sometimes dies before everyone else does, time to put my build to it's fullest extent.. GG Anet thankyou for bringing human groups back into necessity.
All I have to say is...we asked for it, we complain that the game is too easy, guess what, DoA just whuped you like a red headed step child. BWAHAHAHAHAHA

And are they going anywhere far? No, I don't think so.
I believe that you will need a pretty balanced team for this one, with mesmer and rt and stuff.

I am having a good time trying out all the possibilities with lowly assassin and mesmer at my disposal. I must admit it is indeed a great challenge. Though apperantly shadow form is still relatively god-mode in the right areas though you get nothing for it other then chest runs.

me and some pugs tried to run a paragon spike build balancing motivation and command for defense with 2 monks in the rear. the build we designed, was pretty good imo.
even after tweaking we got hosed like a riot :P

No one is going anywhere so far. You've got people that beat the game, and most of us beat the other chapters. We beat the other elite missions. We're not stupid. I polled around a dozen districts this evening. Very few are getting past the first mobs. If the rest of the boards are anything like the first few fights, well...
Isn't it great to spend an hour getting someplace, only to get raped near the end? That's why almost no one does anything in the Deep anymore. Besides the fact that Anet made several professions wasted space in those missions.
Listen folks, Sorrow's Furnace was the best add Anet ever made. Sure it was easy. But you got someplace, and you got something for it. People kept coming back, forming teams, and having fun. Lots of people. Not just the seven guys on this board about to pee their pants in excitement about how hard this is.
Fun & farming. That's what GW's is about for me. I'll be in the War Camp.

I love the new areas. The groups I've gotten into (they don't seem to like mesmers...) tend to die horribly, and it's painfully clear why.
Too many people are positioning poorly, not taking advantage of capabilities, tanking mobs when they should be kiting, etc. A good deal of the mobs are beatable with a properly tweaked group setup, which is great fun in comparison to FoW, where you can run anything and win

Yes this is the first boss, no I will not tell you my build, and thank you ANet for this wonderful area!

Whoa! You got 30% of the map uncovered. We got to the first boss with all trappers on the tunnel board. Not that hard. But what got us there wasn't what we needed to beat him.
I'm not pissed about the addition. There's too many other cool things in GW to enjoy. I figure IF some team figures it, it will get leaked. Then hopefully the professions needed will be the ones I've taken through the game.

As far as most of the areas, Mesmers are the key
Renewaled Mistrust + Spiritual Pains are remarkably effective, in terms of armor ignoring damage and in cancelling spells aimed at your team.
Definitely my favorite area now.

Well since no one else seems to have commented on my observations, that means either a) people have not gotten far at all or b) its just coincidence that every person in my guild group failed to get any max stat drops for nearly 5 hours of hard work in DoA (on top of every person in my friend list that i asked)...
I am REALLY curious as to what others have gotten. I could care less about the drop RATE (which people always turn this into), im talking about simple max stat items of ANYTHING in the elite zones.

Now not being able to get past the first few feet of a zone is fustrating enough. But after nearly 5 hours, i have 66 gold and a NON max blue hammer and a NON max white spear.
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE ELITE ZONE! Your telling me EVEN at the HIGHEST, most ELITE part of the game i cant get max statistic drops?! NF drop system (quality) in general is the biggest joke ever. I had a WHOLE thread dedicated to this fact. Even in the Realm of Torment, the majority of the time, one does NOT got max stat items. My thread EVEN got a reply from Gaile saying "if it is truely a problem, send a report to support." And Support's response? "Post your concerns in a forum for feedback and so Reps can catch wind of any problems."
IN other words the big "deny and point to someone else" manuever. The big never ending circle. Lame Lame Lame Lame... I could care less that we can't get past the first couple of mobs in EVERY DoA zone, but i DO care when we make some serious and determined attempts, only to walk away with a 11-28 dmg hammer? Or a 6-21 dmg spear? If i can't even get the simplest of max statistic WHITE items in the HARDEST area of the whole game, what's to keep my interest? There is only the incentive to getting the Armbraces of Truth for the weapons, but that feet in itself is INCREDIBLY hard at the moment. Anyone else notice drop quality in all of NF... and more specifically the crap quality of drops in the HARDEST part of the game, Domain of Anguish?
In the VERY LEAST we should be getting white items with MAX dmg or MAX statistics. This fact is ridiculous and leaves the most ridiculous incentive value ever. If Anet is going to deny a drop-quality problem AGAIN, then i think i just about am done with RoA and perhaps all of NF....
Cheers.
EDIT: OH! And no, NO ONE else in the guild group had gotten any max statistic drop, at all. I checked my whole friend list too, and not a single friend that has triend the DoA has gotten any max stat drops EITHER...
|
And for reference, the thread i refer to in my quoted post::

Cheers...ugh.

I 50/50 understand the drop problem.
1. I see people complaining about this...but it's always about whites / blues / purples. how often do you actually use those throw-away items? Every time i've seen a gold drop in a decent leveled zone, it's always been max. That's all that matters, really. Why would you care at all about a white drop being max damage or not? Are you SERIOUSLY that poor that you need to use those weapons?

Ok, let me reiterate. Golds, Purples, and Blues i find even in the Realm of Torment often, if not always are NOT max stat items. THAT trend is what worries me. Not finding ANY max stat items even in the most simple of forms in the ELITE zone has me worried, justifiably because the formentioned reasons. In FoW, even your regular everyday white drop is often max stat. Why? It is considered an elite zone.
This new "elite" zone already has a depressing trend going...Hmmm
Oh, and i am not poor by any means. However, did you know the average GW (1-2 hr player a day) is that poor? It is way hard to break into the market in this game. The lucky margin is about as high as the Gold drop rate margin (0.000001% ... or something).
cheers...meh.

I've been trying different ideas on reducing the damage. I've found Winter/Greater Conflagaration/Mantra of Frost to be effective with the right classes:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10084543
Also, my guildies had a good deal of progress to the first boss using a bonder, ZB protection, and Blight/Infuse for their monks. I doubt that's what Russel is running but I don't care about sharing because it's a game!

I have yet to get to this evil Elite Mission of death yet, but since there seem to be such huge mobs, maybe EoE would work?
EoE Trappers were the solution for Urgoz's Warren.
Massive AoE Damage and Recall tanks for the Deep.
Now I need to beat NF >_>

EoE should work well. But one problem: The enemies have to die first to set off the Chain Reaction. That's the hard part.

I think the deep is rediculously easy as long as no one e7's. We got it down to a really short amount of time when we stopped doing it.... That's without any form of recall / Kanaxai abuse.... ~.~
This is more about knowing what to do and having the right things there then anything magical.

I don't think I would count a place with "BP Group only" as "the best".
Sure, you can do it with other builds, but why bother when using BP is the easiest way to do it?
